A good Charles II plain silver plate with well centre, the wide rim engraved with a contemporary coat of arms and ribbon tied plumed mantling, 10.875ins diameter, possibly by Richard Neale, London 1663 (weight 17.5ozs - scratched weight 18ozs scored out to base) Provenance : The Albert Collection, illustrated in the book by Robert Butler - "The Albert Collection - Five Hundred Years of British and European Silver", published by Broadway Publishing, 2004, illustrated on Page 88 (A copy of the book is sold with this lot) Note : The engraved arms are those of Thomas Gale - Professor of Greek at Cambridge University. He went on to become Master of St. Paul's School and published works on Greek authors. In 1675 he obtained a doctorate in Divinity, and thereupon left for York where he became Dean of the Minster.
