Christmas Sale Preview!29/11/16
Our Christmas sale is approaching and we have some exciting items being prepared for auction on the 29th and 30th of November including a fine selection of clocks, a Collection of Barge Racing Trophies, wines and spirits and toys and gifts.
Its Christmas time once again and our November auction brings with it a fine section of clocks running from lots 898-969. Highlights include the following:
Lot 945: A good William IV mahogany chisel based drop dial wall clock by Vulliamy of London, No. 1011, the 12ins diameter painted wood dial with Roman numerals, with good quality eight day movement, heavy brass plates and slender turned pillars, complete with heavy brass bob pendulum (also No. 1011), in mahogany case, with cast brass bezel and dome glass turned mahogany outer bezel and with drop case chisel base lower opening door and two side opening doors, 23.25ins high

Lot 927: A late George III mahogany mantel clock by Sargent, Jermyn Street, London, the 8ins arched painted metal dial with Roman numerals and with strikes silent and pendulum regulation to arch, to the eight day three train movement striking and quarter chiming on nine bells, contained in figured mahogany and brass mounted case, the cresting of swept form surmounted by turned brass urn and with brass scale pattern panels to sides, four further smaller brass urn finials, moulded cornice and brass stopped fluted quarter columns, the side panels with fretted brass scale pattern grills and moulded base with brass ogee feet, 27ins high

Lot 924: A mid-19th Century brass Skeleton timepiece probably by Evans of Handsworth in the form of The Scott Memorial, the 7.25ins diameter fretted silvered dial with Roman numeral cartouches, the heavy twin brass framed single train chain and fusee with balance escapement, the framework of fretted Gothic pattern and with gilt metal seated figure of Walter Scott and his dog, on rectangular plinth, 20.5ins high, mounted on white marble two-tiered oval base, with bun feet and with oval glass dome, 26ins high

Also following the recent success in our October auction of the sale of wine from the estate of the The late Alan Du Boulay – trading as Manwood Vintners of Sandwich, which made a total of £17,590; we will now be selling the champagne and spirits from the same estate in our November auction.
The section will include mainly champagne, whiskey, Cognac and port and will be up for auction on the 30th of November just in time for Christmas!
Lot 820: Twenty four bottles of Barancourt Brut Reserve Champagne
Lot 860: Six 700ml bottles of Godet "X.O. Excellence" Cognac, (40% vol.), and six 700ml bottles of Godet "Folle Blanche - Cognac Exceptionnel", (40% vol - all in gift boxes)
The 30th of November will also include a toy section including rocking horses, a dolls house, Dinky toys, teddy bears, dolls and more.
Lot 691: A fine late 20th Century Dolls House of classical proportions designed and built by Gordon Davies (1926-2007), who also created most of the furnishings, 44.5ins wide x 36ins deep x 68ins high (to top of flagpole), with electric lighting
Note: Gordon Davies created this Dolls House for himself between circa 1985 and 1993. It was exhibited in London during one of Gordon Davies' and John Ward's London Art Exhibitions at The Burlington Arcade.
Provenance: Given by the artists relatives to the current vendor.
Lot 657: An early 20th Century blonde mohair teddy bear with hump and button eyes, possibly German, 24ins, (worn and one eye missing), an early 20th Century blonde mohair teddy bear with hump back and button eyes, 24ins long, and with name badge "Albert", and a quantity of other soft toys, various
Lot 644: A Simon and Halbig No. 914 12 1/2 bisque headed doll with blue closing eyes and open mouth showing two teeth and with jointed composition body, 27ins high, dressed in white lawn full length dress

2016 saw Lowry prints reach some fantastic prices and we end this year with another fine example:
Lot 412: Laurence Stephen Lowry (1887-1976) - Limited Edition colour print - "The Beach, 1947" - Beach scene with fishing boats and figures, 10.25ins x 20ins, published by Venture Prints Ltd., Bristol, 1973, and a small black and white print - "Deal" - Fishing boats on beach, 6.75ins x 9.75ins, published by Venture Prints Ltd., 1973, and signed in biro to left corner, and with explanation of sketch made in September 1912, all contained in one gilt moulded and double glazed picture frame

Lot 357: Alfred Pollentine (1836-1890) - Oil painting - Entrance to the Grand Canal Venice, canvas 31.75ins x 50ins, signed and dated, '74, in ornate moulded gilt frame
Lot 310: Studio of Jean-Marc Nattier (1685-1766) - Oil painting - Half-length portrait of a young woman wearing ermine trimmed blue silk dress and holding a letter in her right hand, relined canvas, 32ins x 25ins, unsigned, in 19th Century gilt moulded frame
Our silver section will this sale play host to a wonderful Collection of Silver Prize Trophies won by F.T. Everard & Sons Limited of The Wharf, Greenhithe, Kent. The photograph below shows our General Manager David Parker with the trophies!
