William Broome (late 19th/early 20th Century) - Oil painting - Marine scene - Ramsgate lifeboat and tug "Aide" in choppy seas off Ramsgate harbour, canvas 10ins x 16ins, signed with monogram in red, in modern gilt moulded frame Note : The sailing ship "Indian Chief" was wrecked on 5th January 1881 on the Goodwin Sands near the Lightship. In terrible conditions some of her crew were rescued by the Ramsgate Lifeboard towed out to her by the tug "Aide". William Broome, thought to be a native of Ramsgate, painted this epic and indeed many other paintings with a variation on this subject. He is thought to have painted little else
