A Japanese Ivory Four-Case Inro with gilt lacquer interior, the exterior carved with a lake scene with figures in boats, pavilions and trees, the lacquer interior decorated with assorted circular Mons and birds, the lower case signed with seal Tessai 3.25ins (8.2cm) high x 2.125ins (5.2cm) wide, complete with carved ivory netsuke in form of a seated Shishi, signed to underside, the whole with silk cord with coral bead ojime
Provenance: Michael Tompkinson Collection No. 740, recorded but not illustrated by Michael Tomkinson in A Japanese Collection, London 1899, Vol. 1. page 20, where lacquer was mistakenly attributed to Kinsai
