A late 16th Century French Mannerist relief carved oak panel of St. Paul with his attributes of an open book and sword, under a plain arch with leafy spandrels to the upper corners, 19ins x 8.5ins, and another late 16th Century oak panel with the same subject, 20ins x 18.75ins
Note : Here the Saint is shown with his attributes of an open book representing his gospel in the New Testament whilst the sword represents his beheading and martyrdom in Rome in 67 AD
