An early Victorian brass framed skeleton timepiece by John Boxer of Folkestone, the 5ins diameter silvered dial with Roman numerals, to the twin shaped brass framework supporting fusee single train movement, on rectangular brass base with twin stepped white marble plinth, 11.25ins high, and with later oval dome for same with ebonised plinth, 16ins high overall.
Note: John Boxer Senior recorded working Folkestone from 1804, the son of Michael Boxer who was working in London from 1779-1804, at which time he obtained the Freedom of Folkestone. Although a watchmaker, he held the position of post master and acted as auctioneer and librarian. His son John Junior recorded Folkestone, born 1779, died 1852.
