June Auction Preview - A Duncan Grant dish previously used as a cat bowl!


A marvelous Duncan Grant dish, previously used as a garden cat bowl is up for auction at The Canterbury Auction Galleries in our 7th, 8th and 9th of June sale, alongside a Vanessa Bell vase, both which were given to the vendor by Duncan Grant.

Duncan Grant (1885-1978) - A lead glazed pottery dish brightly painted in colours with an abstract design within a dot motif to the rim, 9ins diameter (with "DG" monogram in blue to underside)

Provenance : This dish was given to the vendor by Duncan Grant.  It had been used as a cat bowl in the garden by the back door at Charleston. The vendor acquired it in the early 1970s when she used to visit Charleston and talk with Duncan Grant.

Estimated at £600-800



Vanessa Bell (1879-1961) - A lead glazed pottery vase painted in shades of blue and maganese with an abstract design separated by twin blue vertical lines and dots, 5.5ins diameter x 5.5ins high (initialled to underside "VB" in blue and further blue mark and indecipherable incised lettering)

Provenance :  This vase was given to the vendor by Duncan Grant who used to visit Charleston in the early 1970s and would often talk with Duncan Grant

Estimated at £500-600
