Clocks & Barometers

The Canterbury Auction Galleries deals with a large number of clocks and these are included in our two/three day auctions held every 8 weeks. Items range from magnificent longcase clocks to smaller carriage clocks and aneroid barometers. Items can be brought along to our free valuation days, held on most Fridays by appointment only. 

A highlight from our previous sale includes a late 17th/ Early 18th Century Walnut and Marquetry Longcase Clock, by James Clowes of London, the 10ins square brass dial with silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, to the eight day two train five pillar movement striking on a bell, contained in ebonised and walnut case with moulded cornice, split spiral turned columns to hood, trunk inlaid with bird and floral marquetry, on plinth base with bun feet, 77.75ins high

Note: James Clowes, born 1643, died 1706, was a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1671-1705
